Our mission is to challenge conventional narratives about Germany’s colonial past by examining urban spaces through a deeper understanding, recognition and appreciation of indigenous narratives, experiences and knowledge.

Together, we are committed to recognizing and redesigning the stories behind institutions and urban environments. We are particularly interested in reflecting on how we as a society continue to develop institutions by finding new solutions that take the cultural and historical context into account.

Why is decolonization important?
Decolonization is an important process that helps to understand and overcome the impact of colonialism on contemporary society. The consequences of colonialism are still felt today and have a profound impact on many areas of life, such as culture, politics and the economy.
Recognition of the history and experiences of people who were affected by colonialism plays an important role. This can be done through a critical examination of the past and a reassessment of historical events.
Overcoming racist structures and discrimination is also a central aspect of decolonization. The aim is to question and change power relations and to enable equal participation of all people in society.
Another goal of decolonization is to open the view to other perspectives and knowledge systems. This is about an acknowledgement and appreciation of indigenous knowledge and experiences as well as a critical reflection of western thought patterns and world views.
Overall, decolonization helps create a more equitable society where diversity is valued and all people can participate equally.
